We will be carrying extra petrol with us in fuel bags. The problem with petrol in Africa, apparently, is that you get to a filling station only to find that it has run out of petrol, or that the petrol may be dirty or mixed with water. So, the plan is to ride with tanks as full as possible. Our friend and fellow Sonop alumnus, Willie van der Schyff, who did this West Coast of Africa trip in 2019, recommended we ride for 100km, then fill up as soon as we see a pump. Ride another 100km. Fill up again.
In terms of dirty fuel we are taking petrol filter kits along because these bikes don't like dirty fuel. We are also installing petrol/water separator filters in our tanks, for in case, we buy petrol mixed with water.
