One of the major beneficiaries of our trip is the Ezenzeleni Water Tank Project. It started with a crumpled up piece of paper with a note containing only a phone number. A cry for help. Shoved into the hands of Hennie Dreyer, one of the founders of Direct Transact, a Pretoria-based fin-tech and banking services company.
Now, two years later, the project is already moving into phases two and three. The task: Installing water tanks within communities which don't have running water. In addition to the water tanks they have also started planting fruit trees next to the tanks, offering both shade and fruits! The name Ezenzeleni means we make a plan ourselves. And this is exactly what happened here. Neglected by municipal and provincial leadership, community and business leaders are joining hands in making a difference. Africa has a wealth of stories such as these and we can't wait to experience it! JC
